We were sorry to hear about Vonda's death in the paper today. We have fond memories of you and your family when we first moved to Las Vegas. Vonda was so sweet and helpful and you as our bishop was so friendly. We felt at home immediately. We are still in Bountiful for the past 35 years and doing great, even after Troy's recent bout with pneumonia. Our kids are in Draper, Holladay and St. Geroge. We have ten grandkids and two great grandkids.
We still miss Las Vegas as it used to be and especially the 24th and 27th wards. Sorry about your loss of Vonda. Our very best, Troy and Roz Thornton.
I was so sad to read about this today. The Sanford's were my mission presidents in the NJCHM. Sister Sanford was an amazing lady and a great example to all her knew her.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Liz Emery Shakespear (Sister Emery)
I was so blessed to have Vonda as one of my dear Aunts. I spent many wonderful summer days and family Thanksgivings with the Sanford Family. Aunt Vonda was a wonderful example to us kids and spent countless hours loving and serving her extended family and others.
Sister Sanford was such a wonderful mission mom. She was always so kind, patient and willing to help. I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful example of spirituality and charity. She made a huge impact on my life. I am thankful I was able to serve with the Sanfords. My love and prayers are with you, President Sanford, and your family.
When I was notified that I was going to be transferred from the Morristown to the Cherry Hill Mission, I was upset. I think (know) there were some of us that thought “ha lets see what this new President & his wife are made of”. But sister Sanford had such a way about her we quickly changed our tune. She made being a Sister Missionary so much fun! I’m very thankful for the times she asked me to work closely with her on certain projects, I learned so much from her! My heart & prayers go out to you President and the rest of the Sanford family during this rough time. Please let this time strengthen your testimony of our Heavenly Father’s Plan for you as a family. Thank you for all the two of you did for us as missionaries and the people of New Jersey.
Grandma was such an amazing woman. She was so smart and knowledgeable about everything. She loved to read, write, and most of all talk. She could talk for hours about anything... sports, the gospel, politics, movies, health remedies, cleaning techniques, television shows; you name it, she had an opinion or suggestion about it. I think the most difficult thing after her stroke was that she could no longer share her stories or read. I know she is so happy on the other side sharing the gospel with others and catching up with loved ones. I have so many fond memories of her and will cherish them forever. She is surely missed here, but I look forward to seeing her again. I love you grandma!
I think Vonda Sanford was an inspiration to many. Although saying her and her husband opened the Cherry Hill Mission would be like saying they Closed it also may be a little far fetched. I think this is something the apostles did, but her and her husband were there to help out with it during the first days and there are some who are appreciative of this.

She was a true lady.
I will always remember her sweetness and helping me be lady-like during my mission.
Thank you!
